South Park Events

South Park is well known for its annual events. We thought we would introduce them to you in this blog entry.

The most famous event is Fairplay's Burro Days, which is expected to bring in about 15,000 people this year. This annual event is about to hit its 60th year and is always held the last full weekend in July. Festivities celebrate the role that the Burro played in our rich history. The main event is the Burro Race (one person & one burro), a 29-mile race to the 13,000 foot summit of Mosquito Pass and back to historic Front Street in Fairplay. This "World Championships of Burro Races" takes about 5 hours to complete. Along with the race, there are Llama races, arts & crafts, parades, and plenty of food. Please visit http://www.burrodays.com/ for more information on this fantastic event.

Alma's Festival in the Clouds is usually held the third weekend in July. Another annual event, the Festival at 10,350 feet brings in artists, entertainers, and good food. For more information or to participate, please check out http://www.almafoundation.com/ .

Ladies Run is the longest continuous running ladies motorcycle event and has been held as a charitable event benefiting the South Park community. Lady bikers ride in to Fairplay usually in July. Events include a treasure hunt, bands, food and merchant booths, awards, give-aways, the "Fun Buns Contest", and bands. Visit http://www.ladiesrun.com/ for more information.

Como's Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration at 9,800 feet always brings in a huge crowd. Contests for kids and adults complete this family affair. Event also includes entertainers, arts and crafts booths, a chili cook-off, and a full fireworks display at dusk. Please call 719-836-0321 or 719-836-2058 for more info.

The Park County Fair is a local's favorite being held each July. This wonderful 4-H fair boasts a rodeo, livestock show and auction, and fun catch-a-calf, catch-a-swine, and catch-a-lamb events. Of course, there is plenty of food and entertainment as well. For more information please visit http://parkcofair.home.att.net/ .

The Annual South Park Music Tour is quickly becoming a world-favorite. Many bands will be playing...3 or 4 at a time in different areas of Fairplay. Proclaimed "2005 Festival/Event of the Year" by the Colorado Music Awards, this event is expected to bring in thousands of fans. In addition to all the great music, there will be arts and crafts booths, drinks, and plenty of food and fun. Visit http://www.southparkmusic.com/ for more information or to volunteer.
